It goes without saying that these are some crazy times we're living in. Between a pandemic and protests, people are looking forward to brighter days. In addition to recognizing the power we have as a people fighting for justice, there's another power we also firmly believe in: the power of prayer.
Below are some of the prayers that have become part of our daily regimen. Whenever you feel led, send one of these prayers up. As the bible says in Ephesians 6:12, "For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places."
Prayer for Protection
Biblical References: Ephesians 6:10-17
Dear God, I ask that a hedge of protection be around this nation, these communities, and all of our homes. I ask that you clothe us in your armor. Protect the doctors, nurses, and every health care worker. Protect the protesters, officers, politicians, business owners, and all those who are truly seeking to bring about social justice and create harmony as we fight together for what's right.
Prayer Over Fear
Biblical Reference: 2 Timothy 1:7, Philippians 4:6-7
Dear God, I know that you have not given me a spirit of fear. You have given me power, a spirit of love, and a sound mind. Right now, I reclaim that power and choose to embody your love and your peace that surpasses all understanding. On this day, I cast down fear and I walk in power, love, and peace.
Prayer for Activism
Biblical Reference: Psalm 82:3
Dear God, help me to recognize what my role is and how you want to use me during this time. You have gifted me with skills and passions and I know that those things aren't meant to be used solely for my benefit. Show me how I can make a difference in the lives of others, be it concerning the pandemic, police brutality, or both. Whatever your will is, make it plain to me.
Prayer for Justice
Biblical References: Isaiah 1:17, Jeremiah 22:3
Dear God, I pray that you convict the hearts and minds of those in decision-making positions and those with the capacity to hold tyrants and tormenters accountable. I pray for real change in the law-making arena and I ask that you tear down the walls of systematic oppression that have taken Black lives and kept Black lives in bondage for centuries. Tear them down and equip us with the wisdom to rebuild a country rooted in morality, hope, and equity.
Prayer for Health and Wellness
Biblical Reference: Jeremiah 33:6, 2 Corinthians 10:5, Philippians 4:8, Romans 12:2
Dear God, I ask that you heal those suffering from COVID-19. I know faith without works is dead, so please endow us with the sense to do our part in stopping it from spreading. I pray that you give our scientists and researchers the answers in terms of putting together the right concoction of herbs and antibiotics necessary for this pandemic to end. I pray that you give us insight when it comes to managing our self-care and the health and wellness of those who are in our care. Show us how to balance staying informed and knowing when to unplug. Teach us how to tend to our mental health, taking all negative thoughts captive and only dwelling on those things that are pure and move us forward.
