Healthy habits are important to develop in general as they ensure you are taking care of yourself to the best of your ability. Morning habits will not only help you manage your time but will likely help you manage your energy levels as well. You will feel better than you ever have before.
Try to fill the earliest hours of your day with some of these healthy habits!
It all starts the night before
One of the simplest habits to add to your life is laying out everything you need for the following day before you go to bed. Figure out what you will wear and what items need to leave with you when you head out the door. If you plan on exercising, get your gym bag ready. It’s much easier not to put off the gym session when you have already prepared for it.
You may even consider meal prepping. This doesn’t work for everyone’s lifestyle but if you’re a super busy person who doesn’t always have the free time to cook balanced and healthy meals each day, this might be something to add to your routine. Pick a day and prepare your meals for the week. There are tons of benefits to this such as having less food go to waste and freeing more time up in your week.
The most important thing you can do the night before to set yourself up for a great morning is to go to bed at a time that ensures you get enough rest. The National Sleep Foundation recommends that adults get seven to nine hours of sleep each night. Make sure you’re giving yourself plenty of time to wind down and sleep for the recommended amount.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” –Will Durant
Complete these habits first thing each morning
Get up at the same time each morning. This doesn’t mean you have to wake up at an unhealthy hour but rather pick a time that works for you and your schedule and stick to it. Our body's internal clock relies on consistency. After a while, waking up at the same time each day makes it easier for you to get out of bed as your body has found its rhythm. It also helps you fall asleep more easily, experience better quality sleep, and waste less time napping. There are tons of other benefits too! Overall this is an excellent habit to develop.
Drink plenty of water in the morning. Water is essential for many reasons. Your organs and tissues need water to function properly. We lose water each day by using the restroom, sweating, and even just breathing. If you don’t consume enough water you will become dehydrated and harm your body. The recommended amount of water to consume each day is 3.7 liters for men and 2.7 for women. Drinking enough water has many additional benefits beyond basic functions such as decreasing headaches and clearing up skin. Stay disconnected for a little while. There’s no need to jump on social media right after waking up. You will be just fine if you don’t check your notifications or inboxes right awa
