5 Herbs Every Man Should Take

As men, it's easy to eat bad foods that benefit nothing for our bodies. We'll eat wings when watching sports, eat barbecue on summer holidays, and drink beer after a long day of work. Although these foods are tasty and culturally accepted, it's not good fuel for our health and doesn't provide good energy for men.

Hippocrates said, “Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food.”

Herbs are very important when it comes to fueling our bodies with great, natural nutrition. Here are five herbs that every man should be taking for better health. While they all have several benefits, I chose my favorite two.

Irish Moss/Sea Moss

Irish moss/sea moss is rich in several vitamins and nutrients including fiber, Vitamin K, Calcium, Folate, Iron, Magnesium, and Zinc.

  1. Healthy prostate – Zinc is a nutrient that helps the strength of the prostate. The strength of your prostate, having healthy semen, and producing a high volume of semen can be greatly enhanced by zinc contained in sea moss.

  2. Reduces mucus – Since Irish Moss is rich in potassium iodide, it can help get rid of mucus in the airways. Irish Moss allows the men to cough up mucus so he breathes more easily, especially if long-term lung problems such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema are present.

Bladderwrack

Like Irish Moss/Sea Moss, Bladderwrack is a sea vegetable that is high in iodine.

  1. Thyroid gland health – The naturally occurring source of iodine makes Bladderwrack a great choice in the support of a healthy functioning thyroid gland. According to the Journal of Restorative Medicine, it can help with issues such as Hashimoto's disease and hypothyroidism.

  2. Balanced immune system – Bladderwrack contains fucoidans and fucans which are sulfated polysaccharides found in most brown seaweeds. These substances help with having a healthy inflammatory response and have shown strong properties for supporting a healthy immune system and good gut health.

Tongkat Ali

  1. Alleviates erectile dysfunction and low libido – Tongkat Ali has been shown to enhance sexual performance and relieve erectile function. It's also known to help sperm motility and semen volume.

  2. Build muscle – According to livestrong.com, Tongkat Ali may increase muscle mass and strength due to its purported effects on testosterone levels. It's sometimes used to boost athletic performance, physical strength, and to promote fat loss.

Shilajit

According to Healthline, Shilajit is a sticky substance found primarily in the rocks of the Himalayas. It develops over centuries from the slow decomposition of plants and is commonly used in ayurvedic medicine.

  1. Better brain function – Shilajit is known for retaining cognitive abilities which means that you're less likely to suffer from Alzheimer's.

  2. Increased energy – A study conducted in 2012 showed Shilajit to reduce Chronic Fatigue Syndrome by boosting mitochondrial function. As a result, energy levels naturally improved.

Ashwagandha

  1. Reduces stress and anxiety – According to Pubmed, a 60-day study with 64 people with chronic stress, used Ashwagandha and reported a 69% reduction in anxiety and insomnia on average compared with 11% in the placebo group.

  2. Increased muscle mass and strength – Research showed that healthy men who took 750–1,250mg of pulverized Ashwagandha root per day gained muscle strength after 30 days.
